Monetize Your Network

How often have you heard the phrase “monetize your network”? The meaning may seem obvious, but the “how” is where the fog rolls in. Everyone “knows” the term monetize is the responsibility of sales and marketing. Then there is the billing system required to support the effort. Yet, if you were to roll out a new product to a retail market, the sales process would point out exactly what the capabilities of your new product are. So if that is the case, then why isn’t it the responsibility of monetizing the network led by the Plant department?

We Are Not Just The Telephone Company Anymore

One of my greatest skills is to state the obvious. Those of you who know me understand that I am the one in the meeting that listens to everyone else, then makes a statement that is intuitively obvious. So, that will likely be the theme of my blogs: “Deep Thoughts from Mr. Obvious”. So, my “obvious” comment of the day is that telecommunications companies have to transform themselves from “The Telephone Company” to a “Broadband Company”. Again, the obvious is that this transformation is not only changing your network, but changing the entire culture of your company.

Surging network traffic and network upgrades fueled rapid growth in shipments of 10G (10-gigabit), 40G and 100G capable networks in 2012, according to a new report from Infonetics Research. Momentum for 10G, 40G and 100G network ports is lowering costs for these electronics, which is welcome news to CHR clients.

Smartphones Overtake Feature Phones

Smartphone shipments will exceed feature phone shipments for the first time in 2013. Vendors will ship a total of 918.6 million smartphones this year, 50.1% of the worldwide mobile phone shipments' total, according to the IDC Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker.
