Managed Service Providers (MSPs) may be
missing an opportunity to provide data backup and recovery
services in the small-to-medium-size business/enterprise
(SMB/SME) market, according to the results of a survey conducted by
Modular Data Protection Services (Modular DPS), Intel Hybrid Cloud
Group and Intel.
Our research concludes that while many MSPs are currently
offering planning services for disaster recovery and
business continuity, the majority haven't yet taken steps
to offer an off-site backup and recovery solution to support their
plans," said Eric Strong, Modular DPS president and CEO.
Key findings of the joint survey report, in which Modular DPS
and Intel Hybrid Cloud group surveyed a range of MSPs on their
business strategies, include:
- Remote Monitoring and Management Services was the first most
popular (55.6%) core focus area for MSPs. Disaster Recovery and
Business Continuity Planning tied with Remote Help Desk as the
second most popular (44.4%) core focus area. Off-site Data
Backup and Recovery Services placed as the third most
- Off-site Data Backup and Recovery Services placed second
(42.1%) following Managed VOIP (44.4%) as the most popular "line
extension" for the MSPs surveyed.
- Interestingly, while 50% of the MSPs offer Disaster Recovery
and Business Continuity Planning services, only 26.3% of them also
offer Off-site Data Backup and Recovery Services today.
- 70% of the MSPs surveyed had customers with under 1TB of
- 30% of the MSPs surveyed do not currently have a regular
performance and planning review process for their customers.
