The business of securing connected desktop and mobile devices is a
growing business, according to Infonetics Research's latest
Security Client Software vendor market share and forecast report.
The global market for desktop and mobile security clients will
reach $8.2 billion by 2015, according to Infonetics.
The consumer segment of the desktop and laptop client security
solutions market is the largest, though the slowest growing.
Another potentially disruptive factor are cloud- and SaaS
mobile security solutions, which many companies will look to for
security solutions, according to Infonetics.
Desktop computers continue to be the main target of hackers,
though Infonetics believes the mobile security is set for rapid
growth given the fast-growing number of smartphone and media
tablets being shipped.
"Hackers continue to focus their energy on the installed base of
hundreds of millions of desktop computers around the globe, but
with nearly 3 billion new smartphones and tablets expected to ship
worldwide between 2010 and 2015, the opportunity for financially
motivated hacking of smartphones grows significantly every year,"
commented Jeff Wilson, principal analyst for security at Infonetics
Research, in a news release.
As more enterprises and consumers set out to protect their mobile
devices, we expect the mobile security client market to take off,
growing at a phenomenal 41% 5-year compound annual growth
