App storefronts are going mainstream and now must adapt to consumer preferences and buying habits, much like traditional marketplaces have long since done. A key difference for app marketplaces though, is most transactions are free, requiring added attention to detail for the few transactions that generate actual revenue. In order to monetize their apps, developers need to ensure their product is of high quality, offers demonstrable value, and is stable and user friendly , according to a new research report from Strategy Analytics.

One of the more promising cloud applications available today is data storage. It represents a real revenue opportunity and will see explosive growth over the next five years. By the end of 2012, there will be over 500 million cloud storage customers across the globe. That's spurring “companies of all sizes and descriptions to enter the market,” according to an IHS iSuppli report.

Global IT spending is on track for growth of 6% in 2012, slightly lower than 2011's 7% pace, IDC reports. Software, storage, enterprise network and mobile device market segments are all performing strongly, offsetting weaker performance in PCs, servers, peripherals and telecom provider equipment, as well as broader macroeconomic weakness, IDC states in a press release.

The triple-play bundle plays an important role in the success of services penetration and its impact is accelerating, according to market research firm Digital TV Research. Findings from their most recent research on bundling found that triple-play subscriptions will reach 400 million globally by 2017, an increase of nearly 300 million from year-end 2011, and 380 million higher than 2007.
