Banks Intend to Increase Their IT Spend

Shifting away from the cost-cutting they've been focusing on in recent years, retail banks in North America intend to increase their IT spending this year, according to a new report from Ovum. Allocating more capital toward improving customer satisfaction and increasing revenue, IT spending at North American banks will increase 3.3% in 2013, more than that for their European counterparts (1.8%) but less than those in Asia (5.1%), Ovum forecasts.

Tablet Shipments Continue Meteoric Rise

Global shipments of tablet computers surged 75.3% higher year-over-year (YoY) in 4Q 2012 and 74.3% quarterly to a record high 52.5 million units, according to preliminary results from the International Data Corp.'s (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Tablet Tracker. Lower average selling prices, the range of new product offerings, and growth in holiday spending all fueled tablet shipments to even greater heights.

Great Promise, Great Rewards for Properly Managed BYOD

Despite the challenges of employees bringing their own mobile devices into the workplace, companies appear to view the trend favorably, according to a recent Dell survey. Seventy percent of companies believe that bring-your-own-device (BYOD) can improve work processes and boost productivity in the future. Some 59% believe they'd be at a competitive disadvantage without BYOD, according to the results of Dell’s global survey of nearly 1,500 IT executives.
