We Are Not Just The Telephone Company Anymore

One of my greatest skills is to state the obvious. Those of you who know me understand that I am the one in the meeting that listens to everyone else, then makes a statement that is intuitively obvious. So, that will likely be the theme of my blogs: “Deep Thoughts from Mr. Obvious”. So, my “obvious” comment of the day is that telecommunications companies have to transform themselves from “The Telephone Company” to a “Broadband Company”. Again, the obvious is that this transformation is not only changing your network, but changing the entire culture of your company.

Rural Call Completion Problem Receives High Profile Attention

For over a couple of years now, a serious call completion problem has impacted rural America and CHR Solutions’ clients. Telephone calls into rural parts of the country are not being completed properly, creating at best a nuisance for rural customers, but at worst, a potentially life threatening situation, as important public safety calls are not being delivered. It’s an issue that has been brought to the attention of the FCC, which recently took action against Level 3 regarding the problem.

Digital Home Momentum Drives New Industry Alliance

The home networking industry continues to consolidate and coalesce around emerging industry-wide standards: HomeGrid Forum and the HomePNA Alliance on May 28 announced they are merging. Operating under the HomeGrid Forum name, the union “creates a larger, stronger organization well positioned to lead the evolution of all home wireline networks to G.hn.” Home Grid Forum has been a leading proponent of G.hn, a set of home networking standards developed under the International Telecommunication Union's Telecommunications Standardization unit, ITU-T.
